Welcome
Sunora Farm is a small hobby farm nestled in Oregon's Willamette Valley
Llamas have been part of my life since 1990 - the name Sunora Farm is a combination of Susan & Vanora -
my youngest daughter. When she was three we purchased two pregnant dams and started a breeding program
on our farm in the redwoods of California. We also got some older geldings for packing and they became
our first teachers. I attended many clinics on training, herd management and health care as our herd grew.
We went to shows and Vanora excelled in performance classes - she won many blue ribbons and trophies showing
her llamas. We produced many healthy llamas that we sold to happy new homes.
Change came in 1999 when we sold most of the herd and moved to less acreage in the Willamette
Valley of Oregon. Fortunately there was a local llama group and we were able to continued enjoying a life
with llamas. Vanora joined 4H and selected Earligold & Velarde - juvenile llamas for her project. Her
teenage years were stormy times, but her relationship with llamas was a calming influence. The animal
handling skills she learned as a youth are serving her well in adulthood.
In 2005 I decided to breed llamas again. I wanted to provide classic llamas for packing, breeding, and as trusted companions. I acquired some quality dams and bred them to outstanding studs. Sunora Farm doesn’t produced many llamas, but all of my llamas have been placed in homes where they have a job to do. Keeping my herd small allows me the opportunity to work with each llama. I have developed a training style that works for me - short frequent lessons in a relaxed environment. I believe a llama that has completed basic training and is comfortable with people, will be ready for a rewarding future. It's a privilege to produce quality llamas so other people can enjoy them as much as I do.
