2018 in The Gambia

2018 in The Gambia

Gardening at my PCV work site in Farafenni

As a new year dawns, I am excited to begin my service as PCV. Less than three years ago, on a yoga retreat, a friend planted the seed that I could become a PCV after retirement. At that time, I didn’t even know the West African country of The Gambia existed, and now I have the opportunity to learn from and contribute to this amazing culture.

During the past three months, while I was living in my Mandinka training village, I wrote blogs and took photos about my experiences, hoping to be able to upload them eventually. I am now settled into my permanent home, complete with WiFi, and can post what I wrote when I was a trainee. I hope you enjoy reading about my experiences, and I will continue to post regularly as I complete my two years of PCV service.

I wish all my family, friends, and blog followers a wonderful 2018. I encourage you to stay open to whatever life may offer you, even when it wasn’t something you previously imagined.

  3. I’m so glad to read that things are going well for you. Thanks for taking me along virtually on your big adventure. This is so exciting! Enjoy the sunshine and don’t miss the short wet cool days of winter in Oregon.

  4. The friend who I plan to travel to Africa with needs shoulder surgery, so we still can’t plan our trip. Grrr! But you never know😘

  5. Hi Susan/Saajoo!
Photos worth thousands of words! I’ve loved imagining you in The Gambia and the images add substance. Loved hearing about the beginning of your adventure; we were just wondering why we weren’t getting blogs, and are looking forward to hearing more now that you’re in wifi country.
    Blessings in the new year!
